upgrading IKEA IVAR units

One of the projects I recently took on was transforming the IKEA ivar cabinet into a more sophisticated bar area/dining room storage.

We purchased two to have side by side for extra storage.

First thing I did was paint them (Swiss Coffee – Benj. Moore) and create a base for the bottom.

Next I mapped out where I wanted the moulding to be. I did 1.5″ in from the sides.

Then I laid out the 45 degree cut moulding and (wood) glued all the corners together so it was in one piece to attach.

Then I laid out all the pieces and made sure all the measurements and everything lined up before I wood glued them in place.

Then the final step was to paint them! Voila – sophisticated/upgraded IKEA storage.
