current home projects

I’m back! It’s been a while. I went to Hawaii and the day I got back, I got sick with COVID! I’m finally feeling like myself again which has been a relief. I lost my taste for a while after and there’s something so terrifying about that feeling especially when cooking and baking is part of your identity. The moral of the story is, don’t take your health for granted. I’m happy to be almost better. It lingers. Anyway – I’m currently in a phase where I’m channeling all my energy towards our house. We moved in September 2022 and while we’re only in this space for a year, I haven’t really settled into it. I decided that not settling in was slowly driving me insane and making me feel sad. After I started to feel better and was in the COVID clear – I immediately started nesting as hard as I could. Here’s what I’ve been working on:

Curtains!! I added curtains to the only two windows that I can in the house. Those with radiators underneath won’t be getting them because, well, fire.

Bed frames!! I know this is late and frankly, odd. We’ve been sleeping with our mattress on the floor since September because I wanted to hold out and buy the perfect bed frame. I decided that I need more time to pick one so I temporarily purchased some frames and got bed skirts for both our bedroom and the guest bedroom. I actually realized that I love the look of a bedskirted bed. Very traditional of me. Yes, I also need to steam the bed.

Pillows!! I’ve been sewing like a mad woman trying to add more patterned textiles around the house. I made a great lumbar pillow for the bedroom that matches the curtains and I’m currently working on more pillows for the couch as well as another lumbar for the guest room. Pillow lady.

Rearranging!! I love to rearrange. It’s my favorite form of physical and mental exercise. Also, I do plan on hemming these curtains at some point, just not today.

Trays! Books! Vases! Candle holders! All the things are coming home with me if I see them. I’ve decided that I’m allowing myself to splurge to make our house feel more like a home.

Art on the walls!! I’ve been holding back on hanging things up because I don’t love our art collection right now. I decided that I am hanging all the things I DO like so I can enjoy them.

All the lamps!! I’m on a lamp and lamp shade hunt. I love adding lighting to rooms and it’s been somewhat challenging finding ones that I like but the search is part of the fun. Loving swing arm lamps right now but this one needs a new harp and shade!

If anyone has any favorite things to add to their houses that make them feel more like a home please send my way. Also, how do we feel about tablecloths? Asking for a friend.

fun finds – January

hrifting/antiquing. I genuinely get a thrill from finding something I just HAVE to have, even if it means nothing to anyone else. Although we’re not at the decorating phase of working on our house yet, a girl can still shop.

An overdue renovation update and a happy new year!

It’s been a teeny bit over two months since we closed on our house and since then we’ve done a lot of changes. I thought it necessary to document some of the progress that’s happened over here since we moved in a few weeks ago.

We bought a house!

There have been so many lessons along the way to get to where we are now but we finally OWN a house. First thing we did after we closed? Started ripping down cabinets and taking doors off hinges. I couldn’t wait a single second more to start making this place ours. It’s going to be…
